Dan Attoe Interview on Portland radio

Dan talks about his work over the last maybe 13 or 14 years. How it started while he was a psychology student in Madison Wisconsin and was looking for a way to understand stuff about the big picture, and then he became an art student and made a painting everyday for 7 years. Which is one of the smartest and best things I have seen an artist do, because Dan has one hell of a portfolio of good paintings after making around 2000 of them in 7 years, and by making a painting everyday for 7 years he understood more about himself.

He gets into Paintallica a little, and explains it in a different and more interesting way than I did in the post underneath this. Dan basically talks about how Paintallica started as a pact between friends to try and hurt each other's feelings about our artwork in an attempt to get honest criticism and grow as artists, and how it eventually bloomed into Paintallica. I guess the critical genesis of the project could be referred to as proto-Paintallica or ante-Paintallica, because it more about friendship and trying to get the most out of school at first and only later became a venue for exhibitions.

Dan also D.j.s the show, and plays some interesting tunes.
