Trying to Finish Up

I am putting the finishing touches on some of my paintings, and may start a couple of drawings before the Transmission Gallery opening on December 5th.
This is a close up of the face.

I think this is done... but I want to make more, I get a lot of ideas right before a show.

Yes... finish!

My other comment - you used a composition that always makes me feel uneasy/anxious for some reason. What I mean (sorry - terminology escapes me today), is that you have positioned the face on the left hand side of the canvas and it's facing out to the left... where most artists would position this on the right of the canvas so it's looking into the painted space!

I've seen this composition used in film also, and it makes you wonder what is outside the frame!

It's very intriguing ;)
However, I don't think I could hang it in a home environment - but I think it's perfect for a foyer, office or similar.

Yeah, I guess I was trying something different with this one. The composition is a little affected, but what the heck, you don't know how something is going to play out until you do it.

I wanted to paint this specific face, and I considered painting it directly in the center with some words in semi-circles around it. But I made the decision to paint it over to the left sort of arbitraily, in the hopes that it would invite a moment of artistic creativity, haah.

Anyways I like it.

This is it, I am finished with this one. Not going to take to the point of obsessivness I do with some images.

One thing I was interested in was the color. Getting the blue to burst from the red, and the heightened feeling the unnatural color would indicate.

Another thing was the feeling of floating, and euphoria. I have been trying to get a first hand mystical feeling going. By "first hand mystical" I mean something outside of normal understanding that happens directly to you. Special and interesting moments that give life meaning.

I do like the composition... but it has TOO much of an affect on me! And it is most definitely "outside of normal understanding".

It's a real "art piece" and not just a nice/interesting picture... if that makes sense to you - I shouldn't be commenting today as I've only had 5 hrs sleep! Brains dead I think!!

As for colours - I believe you achieved your goal. The combination gives the illusion that the head was painted separately, cut out and then stuck to the background.

I like it Bill :)

Thanks Manz, I didn't take it negatively. I wanted to explain a little more of my thought process, mostly because I wanted to make sure I knew what I was thinking while I made the painting...

Nothing is better than an honest dialog about art, so please always say what you are thinking, because it gives me perspective on what I am doing!

Thanks Manz, and thanks Derkye :)
