I am reading the biography about the founder of the American Shaking Quakers, Ann Lee, and she was a pretty impressive person, and having grown up in New England right around where she set up shop I was surprised how much I could recognise in her speech and attitude towards life and religion that I thought was just indigenous to New England, but maybe came from her and her group... Anyways, at one point in the biography after Ann Lee has lost all 4 children she gave birth too she ends up in a "lunatik ward" and has a vision that god comes to her etc... The author of the biography pointed out the narratives in the bible gave meaning to Ann Lee's personal struggle and the death of her children, and I thought for a while about that idea, and it occured to me that religion does that for everyone - gives meaning, but I am not religious and I think more and more people aren't, and I think this has a caused a crisis of purpose and meaning.Bill Donovanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09784106148142157239noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-890981984740618873.post-80009520281059820682008-07-20T14:18:00.000-04:002008-07-20T14:18:00.000-04:00I have never heard the term meta-narrative until this blog. Art seems to be a place where people are creating their own religion based on art.
