Drawing
In my class today the topic of the difference between a sign and an observation came up. It is a pretty interesting distinction, because when most non-artists tend to think about stuff like a dog, an eye, a nose, they have a little picture in their head that they think looks like a dog, an eye, or a nose. But when you learn to draw you also learn to ignore that little picture you keep in your minds eye and instead focus on the form (light), and color. Someone may have a nose that looks like a potato, or eyes that are too close together, you can only see that through looking and learning to trust what you are seeing.
Just thought I would jot this down, because it seems like an interesting point for non-artists to read and consider.
